View file or folder properties

Tap and hold an item in File Explorer and select Properties.

  • For a file, the name, type, location, size, time of last modification, and file system attributes are displayed.
  • For a folder, the name, location, and time of last modification are displayed.
  • For a storage card, the total, used, and free capacities are shown.

Some types of files, such as programs or shortcuts, may have other tabs with additional properties.

Properties can also be accessed from the document list of some other applications.

To show hidden files in File Explorer, tap and hold in the empty space at the bottom of the file list and select View All Files.

Open a file in another application

Properties can open files in another application. In the Open With menu, choose the application you want to use to open the file.

  • Choose Default Application to open the file normally.
  • Choose Settings... to edit the list of applications. To create a new entry, tap Add. To modify an existing entry, select it and tap Edit. Enter a name and a command line for the application. Use %1 in the command line to indicate the desired position of the filename. Example: pword.exe -opendoc %1 for Pocket Word.

  • The Target field contains the destination of the shortcut.
  • The Icon field specifies an optional custom icon

Specify a custom icon

Properties can configure custom icons for shortcuts and folders on the Shortcut or Folder Icon tab.

  • Icons are specified as the name of the file with the icon, followed by a comma, hyphen, and the resource ID of the icon. Example: \Program Files\nandhp CEProp\CEProp.exe,-128 for the Properties icon.
  • When specifying a folder icon, the resource ID may be omitted to use the default icon of a program. Example: pword.exe for the Pocket Word icon.

Due to the icon cache, changing the custom icon for a shortcut may require a soft reset.
